Rule 3 - Unsuccessful Challenge

Keep an eye out for pearls of wisdom from El Presidenté…. And the odd shot glass. By Presidential decree, the adopted saying for the NLL this year is “Just one more”. Make of it what you will…. |

Rule 1 - Do not talk about Fight Club. Oh hang on, that's a different set of rules. For the newer members of the North London Lions, below is summary of the rules of the Lion. There have been several other, more obscure, rules in the past, but as Clarence is making a comeback this season and will be a new and exciting experience for some members, he's decided to break everyone in with some easy-to-remember rules to live by: |

Latest Report: Ones
Clarence reckons the last time we beat the Demons was four 4 years ago at Gunnersbury Park, in an Elimination final, and on the weekend we made up for lost time, by beating the Demons by 43 points.
Clarence knew that if we got our best players on the field, no one would come near, and that is still yet to happen but we got pretty close on the weekend, with the likes of Matty Ball coming back to the Den and Captain Courageous Marshy also back from his drive all over Spain in one week and fall asleep in the van and miss running of the Bulls tour.
Still out of the team are Miami Vice Shawey and both vice captains Kevin O’Football and Cheese and Crackers, who will be sniffing around for a game this week.
Wandsworth got the jump on the Lions in the first quarter kicking five to two goals and made us look a little silly. But to the boys credit and a few changes for a couple of better match ups the Lions came out hard and strong in the second quarter with in form forward Scotty Daniel’s really leading the way with some great examples of athleticism, pace and by kicking true, to get the boys back into the game.
Timmy Ross who has been a shining light in the last few weeks lifted another notch to play his best game the club has ever seen and also picked up a few brownlow votes, with his in and under tough play to give our boys first use of the ball.
By half time the Lions had rattled the Demons’ cage to be three goals in front, and Clarence could tell by both teams body language that was going to go on and win this game, and his money was not on the hapless Demons.
The third quarter saw the Lions go from strength to strength with Marshy giving the boys first use out of the ruck and the followers working well to get it down forward. Nuggety centre man G Mac was everywhere in the third quarter and Irish Eamon was kicking goals from all angels.
Number two Frenchy J.P rose to the occasion with a great game, playing his second game for the day, and showing everyone that there is room for two French men in this North London Lion’s line up. They say it may have had something to do with his Mrs and her big jugs watching from the sideline that gave him such inspiration for a fantastic game.
The boys hard at the ball running and attack separated the both sides and it gave the Lions a handy lead going into the last quarter. Cootesy’s effort were prime example of this hard running and attack, keep up the good work mate.
The last quarter saw the Demons drop there heads, but it saw Scotty Daniel’s leap to the sky using his man as a step ladder atevery opportunity he could, we eventually ran out convincing winners in the end and has sent a signal to the rest of the league that we are a force to be reckon with this August
Best: Scotty Daniel’s, G Mac, Eamon, Matt Ball, Tim Ross, Courtney Shergold
Goals: Scotty 10, Eamon 2 and the rest
Let down of the day: J.P’s effort in the boat race, after playing two great games for the Lions, he really went from chocolates to boiled lollies in the boat race, sipping his beer like a cup of tea.
Mark of the day: No real mark stood out, but we will give it to, Scotty Daniel’s for so many efforts for mark of the day, if only he could of held one on some of the great sits he had.
Twos
Having spent the last three days this week typing a novel about the Premiership game, Clarence has come down with a repetitive strain injury, and so will keep the Conference report short and sweet.
With two rounds to play and a spot in the finals sewn up, the Regents Park Lions were looking forward to playing one team that we’d definitely enjoy beating. The last three games against the Demons in the Conference have seen the Lions go down by 2 points, 2 points and 3 points respectively. We were well and truly due for a win, and there was a feeling that this might be our day.
Starting at the first bounce, we were in for a bit of a shock. We were second to the ball, our skills were off, and nothing seemed to work. Kicking with a handy breeze, the Demons booted four easy goals while we failed trouble the half back line, let alone the full back.
However the Lions came out of the quarter time huddle with a purpose, and set about kicking four goals of their own. Crumbles at full forward was leading hard, and Brad and Frosty were teaming up well to control the half forward line. In the middle Big Nads was getting on top and the onballers were enjoying first use of the ball.
The third and final quarters were tight. Less than three goals down with the breeze in the last, the Lions were perhaps a little too confident. Resorting to bombing the ball into the forward line rather than looking for our leading forwards cost us, and we fell about a goal short of the mark.
Disappointing to lose (again) to the Demons, however another sign that we are not far off the mark and we’ll be ready to go if we get a crack at them in the finals.
Highlights for the day:
Fridge getting about 5000 possessions playing through the middle of the ground all day.
Big Nads finally making his return, travelling all the way down from lovely Milton Keynes to star in the ruck (tapping down about 2500 of Fridges 5000 possessions)
Cam Balboa giving it to any Demons backman who would come near him.
Everyone in the second quarter, where we turned around our shaky start and fought our way back to level at half time.
Social Stuff
Boys this week sees the Lions playing there last home and away game for the season and it also sees the boys going for top spot. Its going to be a great day at Bounds Green, so get everybody down they’re as it defiantly on up for the Lions this year
Bobcat entertainment is proud to announce his annual last game pub-crawl through North London on the London’s old Route Master bus,
The cost is a fiver and everybody is welcome to come along, we will be visiting 4 or 5 pubs on the way to Belushi’s, who will be so glad to see us with a tank load of beers down our throats.
Maybe The Fridge can make ejection number 6 for the year, we can only hope. They really do love him down there.
Other news around the Den is that Jimmy Boot will be taking over as President again as of Saturday afternoon as Dicko is off on a months vacation in Central America, the club would like to thank Matt for all his hard work this year, you’ve done a great job mate. From hitting Spice in the face with a shot glass to putting on a great birthday bash for all the boys to get along to. Hopefully before his time is up he would have picked the cash up from Belushi’s. Have to say a much better President than last years rusty nuts.
For all those last stragglers who haven’t put there money where there mouths are for footy trip, now is the time as the plane and the hotel has been paid for, so get your money to Trav Fernee.
Last but not least let’s beat these pussycats this week, as we are the Lions, Kings of the London Jungle.
See you at the bottom of your pint.
That’s another wrap from the Den
