About
Welcome to the North London Lions.
Australian Rules Football is a thriving sport in London, established by the large expat Australian community, and also catering to ever growing numbers of local English and European participants.
The Lions are one of the largest Aussie Rules clubs in London, and we have a long and proud association with Australian Football in the UK.
Established in 1990, we are a founding club of the BARFL (the forerunner of the AFL London League). Since then we have established ourselves as one of the most successful, social and popular Clubs in the competition.
We enjoyed Grand Final victories in 2001 and then again in 2002. Since then the Lions have been an almost constant presence in finals football in London, however we haven’t quite broken through for another flag… yet.
Each week we field three teams in competition. 1st grade (the North London Lions) feature in the AFL London Premiership. 2nd grade (the Regents Park Lions) feature in the AFL London Conference competition. Finally our 3rd grade team (the Bounds Green Lions) feature in the AFL London Social competition.
Games are played by teams comprising both Australian and non-Australian participants, and local players from England and beyond also have the opportunity to represent their countries. The Australian Rules Football International Cup (held every four years) and also more regularly in International Representative games and tournaments. The Lions have a long tradition of providing players for the GB and other national teams.
As well as being very competitive on the field, the Lions take our social activities equally seriously. Each year we hold a range of events, including training Boot Camps, pre and post Season international trips, the infamous £1000 Reverse Raffle, Routemaster pub crawl, Thames Cruise and more. For those arriving in London or looking to make more of their experience in this great city, the Lions offer a great starting point. As well as active players, we also welcome friends, family, girlfriends and wives. All Lions home games feature free Pimms for female spectators, and all are welcome to many of our social activities and events.
