Join the North London Lions for Season 2013

Everyone is welcome to get involved at the Lions, including players, supporters, random people who are a bit curious about what on earth Aussie Rules footy is, or those if you are relatively new to London and looking to expand your social circle. We’re proud of our reputation as one of the most social aussie rules clubs in London, and also one of the most competitive.

We’re always looking for new folk to get involved. So no matter if it’s early in the year or late, do get in touch.

Off the field in Season 2013, the calender already choc full of all sorts of things. We take our socialising very seriously, and already the following bits and pieces are on the cards:
- Season launch (9th March)
- Boot Camp Birmingham and pre season trip to Zagreb, Croatia (plus an epic end of year trip as well)
- Thames Boat Cruise
- Disaster on the Routemaster pub crawl
- Exclusive access to a HUGE AFL Grand Final party in central London (last year 250+ people and it will be bigger this year!)
- Fundraising charity dinners at some very classy (Michelen star) restaurants
- various random ad hoc and often epic nights out

Socialising is all good and well, but it’s always just a little better when you win a game of footy too. we take pride in putting 3 very competitive footy teams on the field each week, and last year in 2012 all three played finals footy. In fact, we were the ONLY club in London to get 2 sides to the big dance, and while our 2nd team fell only 2 points short of a huge win, our 1st grade team won the AFL London Premiership!

We are always seeking new players, from those who have played for years back in Australia, right through to those completely new to the game.  You don’t have to be an Aussie to play. In fact, half our 1st grade side must be filled by other nationalities. We have a great track record in providing players for the national sides of various nations, including GB, Ireland and others. It doesn’t really matter where you are from, just as long as you are interested in playing Aussie Rules and are keen to get involved!

Obviously Aussie Rules footy in London won’t be the most serious sport you’ve ever played. Most of our players juggle work, travel, other commitments, and (unfortunately regular) hangovers. It’s not always possible to make training, and you’ll probably miss a few games along the way too. We get it, and we’ll all work it out as we go along. So don’t let that be the reason that you don’t give it a go. More generally, aussie rules footy is a great way to keep fit, to meet new people, to get out in the sun, and generally to have a great time in London during the Summer.
