What's Going On?

Welcome back to old Lions, and welcome aboard to new Lions.
It's time we all had something to help us forget how fricking cold it is at the moment, well here 'tis… Season 2010 at the North London Lions is about to begin!
Clarence has been hibernating for a month or two, however he's up and about now, shaking out the mane, stretching the legs, etc etc. Of course, that means a few things for you:

  • It means that it's a new year, and you're stuck with new years resolutions like 'I'll lay off the booze' or 'I'll spend less time with the lads from footy'. Good luck with those.
  • It means it's almost time to stop taking the girl to the movies on a Thursday night, because soon she won't want to talk to you on a Thursday night (or a Friday morning… or a Saturday for that matter)
  • It means people are going to be dropping things in your beer and making you scull. It means footy trips, Saturdays in the sun, big nights out in random places, stupidity, hilarity, singing. Amongst it all, you'll even play a game of footy or two.

Introducing... the New Club Logo and Colours
The brains trust at NLL has been working hard over the off season to design a new logo for the club. It's a retro design with our old mate Clarence the Lion featuring prominently again. The image of Clarence is a unique design, which cannot be found anywhere else in the world (

You will notice that yellow has been added to the club colours. This is principally to help stop "jumper clashes" with other clubs. Speaking of jumpers, it is rumored that a new jumper design may emerge before the 2010 season... let's see what happens!

2010 Coaches
cast your eye over this for a Coaching Panel in 2010: Leading first grade, we welcome back our favourite first couple of football:
Travis Fernee and Scott Daniel. Since we last pulled on the red and black, Trav decided to move back home to Aus, then changed his mind and stayed on for 'one more year'. Likewise, Scotty retired again, but then came out of retirement at the first chance he got. So it's business as usual. Doing the deed for the super seconds, is one of North London's favourite sons. Jimmy the Boot. As an ex-first grade coach this man knows what it's all about, and has the know how to knock the boys into shape for a tilt at the flag.

Pre-Season Footy Trip
The pre season footy trip is all set up. We're heading to
Cologne, for a night or two on the tiles, as well as a game of footy against the schnitzels while we're at it. The last time we did anything remotely German-themed, we ran a Routemaster bus into a bridge, so all signs are promising that this will be messy. Numbers are limited, so get on board early. It looks like April 16th through 18th are the dates, however stay tuned as that will be confirmed soon.

Plenty more events to come in 2010.
For a full list, keep an eye on the Lions Den

Training

Pre season training starts the first Sunday in February (that's Sunday 7th), at 11am. We'll meet at the Hub, Regent's Park, collect any new lads, then make fun of the those wearing tights before heading off for a light run and kick. Make sure you get there, Clarence wants a big turn out for the first session of 2010. When you come down, do not confuse us with the Sussex Swans, who train elsewhere in Regent's Park.

After training, we'll make our way to our NEW training pub for drinks, the New Inn. It's not Vas' pub, which we are sad about - but in many ways that's a good thing. It hasn't been repossessed, and so has a bathroom and beer on tap. We think the New Inn is a top place, and its also been named after Lions player Cam Newinn, whose Thai family will be cooking up a storm for the lads after training.

Training will then be ongoing every Sunday until it switches to Tuesday and Thursday when the clocks switch to summertime.

North London Lions 21st Season

As a foundation Club of the Aussie Rules football competition in London (BARFL) in 1990, the North London Lions is now 20 years old. As we undertake our 21st season in London there will be celebration events held in London and in Australia. Clarence is very excited.

So Lions old and new, in Blighty or Oz, keep an eye on the web site and get involved in the celebrations!

Next Fixture

This has not yet been announced for Season 2010. The season will begin in early May 2010. There will be a number of warm-up fixtures before this, including on the pre-season trip to Cologne, Germany.
